Screenplay Bumilangit

Screenplay Bumilangit is an Indonesian production company established in 2018 and is a joint venture between Screenplay Films and Bumilangit Studio. Screenplay Bumilangit plans to develop, finance, and produce a slate of universal superhero action films that embrace and elevate Indonesian comic and pop culture.

Bumilangit Cinematic Universe

The story in Bumilangit Cinematic Universe is formed from a variety of stories and characters from the legendary Indonesian folklores illustrated by the publisher Bumilangit, which was founded in 2003, is the first milestone at the beginning of an effort to revive the storytelling culture of 1950s comics in Indonesia. Bumilangit is a family for many creators from the early generation to the present, as well as loyal fans who always appreciate the works of our artists. Now Bumilangit is a leading character-based entertainment company in Indonesia which manages the largest characters library, with over than 1000 comic characters that have been published over the past sixty years.

Wicky V. Olindo, co-founder and CEO of Screenplay Films, a company partnered with leading media group EMTEK is one of Indonesia’s influential film producer, having successful box office hit films. And has continuously set a new bar for the industry with internationall-acclaimed Indonesian production.

Under Screenplay Infinite — a JV with Infinite Studios — he produced “Headshot” which was officially selected at the Toronto International Film Festival. Another hit under the same label was Indonesia’s first Netflix Original “The Night Comes for Us” which had its world premiere at the Fantastic Fest in the US.

His latest venture with Bumilangit Entertainment, Screenplay Bumilangit has seen the success of “Gundala”, a first of many more Indonesian superhero films as part of the Bumilangit Cinematic Universe, based on popular Indonesian comic characters. The film was also officially selected at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Bumilangit Entertainment focuses in movies & animation production, comics publishing and licensing & merchandising and is the forefront in creating a local comic-based characters industry in Indonesia. Bismarka has hands-on experiences in operating and building values in media industry, as well as in property, mining, finance and telecommunication sectors. He has lived in the US for 5 years, where he obtained MBA in Finance, Investments & Banking from University of Wisconsin-Madison, MEng in Structural Engineering from Cornell University and BSc in Civil Engineering from University of Southern California.

Bumilangit Entertainment focuses in movies & animation production, comics publishing and licensing & merchandising and is the forefront in creating a local comic-based characters industry in Indonesia. Bismarka has hands-on experiences in operating and building values in media industry, as well as in property, mining, finance and telecommunication sectors. He has lived in the US for 5 years, where he obtained MBA in Finance, Investments & Banking from University of Wisconsin-Madison, MEng in Structural Engineering from Cornell University and BSc in Civil Engineering from University of Southern California.

Joko Anwar, born January 3, 1976 in Medan, North Sumatera, has been enjoying commercial and critical success as writer and director. His directorial debut, Janji Joni (Joni’s Promise, 2005) was a box office comedy smash  and was highly praised by international critics.

His next film, the genre-bending Kala (2007) was named one of the best films of the year by Sight and Sound magazine who cited him as one of the smartest filmmakers in Asia. His third feature, Pintu Terlarang (The Forbidden Door, 2009) won top prize at Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival. His next film, Modus Anomali (Ritual) (2012) broke into international market and won praises from international  critics. And his venture into arthouse drama, A Copy of My Mind (2015),  competed at the Venice International Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival in 2015.

Pengabdi Setan (Satan’s Slaves) marked Joko as an A-list blockbuster director, breaking record as the highest grossing Indonesian horror film of all time, was sold to more than 42 countries and collected the most awards in Indonesian Film Festival (FFI). Both Gundala and Impetigore was a critical and box office successes in 2019 and 2020. Joko Anwar has also directed TV series for HBO Asia, including Folklore: A Mother’s Love (2018).

Biography

Joko Anwar, born January 3, 1976 in Medan, North Sumatera, has been enjoying commercial and critical success as writer and director. The first film that he wrote, Arisan! (2003) won numerous awards at home and abroad and was hailed as a groundbreaking movie in Indonesia. His directorial debut, Janji Joni (Joni’s Promise, 2005) was box office smash comedy and was highly praised by international critics. His next film, the genre-bending Kala (2007) was named one of the best films of the year by Sight and Sound magazine who cited him as one of the smartest filmmakers in Asia. His third feature, Pintu Terlarang (The Forbidden Door, 2009) won top prize at Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival and was also named one of the best films of 2009 by Sight and Sound magazine. Richard Corliss of TIME wrote that “As slick as it is sick, the movie could be Anwar’s calling card for international employment”. He also mentioned the film as an “example of what movies could be but rarely dare to try”.

His next film, Modus Anomali (Ritual) (2012) broke out into international market and also won praises from critics. His A Copy of My Mind (2015) competed at Venice International Film Festival and Toronto International
Film Festival in 2015.

His first horror feature, Pengabdi Setan (Satan’s Slaves) broke record as the
highest grossing Indonesian horror film of all time and was the highest grossing Indonesian film in 2017 and was sold to more than 42 countries and won the most awards in Indonesian equivalent of The Oscars. Joko Anwar has also directed TV series for HBO Asia, including Folklore: A Mother’s Love (2018). Joko Anwar also writes for other directors. His new movies, superhero Gundala and horror thriller Impetigore are slated to be released in 2019.

KEVIN RYAN HIMAWAN

Born and raised in Jakarta, Kevin studied film production at Universitas Multimedia Nusantara, where he wrote, directed, and produced numerous short films. His graduation thesis, Suan Ming, focused on film production management and went on to win at the 11th Indonesian Film Festival, Melbourne. Also screened on numerous film festival such as Josiah Media Festival 2015 and Balinale 2015.

Since graduation, Kevin has worked in a variety of roles across the industry. He served as a Talent Coordinator on renowned Indonesian filmmaker Nia Dinata’s short Sleep Tight, Maria, as well as the Indonesian Cannes entry The Fox Exploits the Tiger’s Night, directed by Lucky Kuswandi. After working as Associate Producer at Soda Machine Films, Kevin also explored the digital potential of film as a Production Manager at SLATE Indonesia.

More recently, Kevin produced digital content for brands like Pegi-Pegi and provided client services for the 2019 Marlboro You Decide Campaign. He currently works as Co Producer at Screenplay Bumilangit.
